DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND TESTING OF A SCREW CONVEYOR

ABSTRACT

The work presented in this project deals with the design, construction and testing of a screw conveyor. Screw conveyor is one of the most important, cost benefit and time saving equipment. it most modern industry plant even in a coal mine, rock salt plant, there is a screw conveyor. It may be horizontal, inclined and vertical. A horizontal type screw conveyor has been design, constructed and tested. It consists of mainly a shaft, screw, bearing, feed hopper, discharge hopper, motor, pulley, belt, and stand. Flow of material is accomplished by the use of a rotating helix inside a fixed trough. The rotating helix or flighting provides a continuously inclined face, which operates a forward movement of the product. The speed of the screw conveyor can be changed of pulley diameter. The performance of the designed conveyor is found to run very satisfactory. The discharge of rice husk has been found to be 212 ft3/hr .

DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND PERFORMANCE TEST OF AN IMPACT TESTING MACHINE FOR NON METAL

ABSTRACT

This specification covers requirements and test methods for materials, dimensions and impact resistance for PVC. The pipe and fittings covered are suitable for the drainage and venting of sewage and certain other liquid wastes. A form of marking is also included. The pipe and fittings shall be made of virgin PVC compounds of defined specification. The pipe shall conform to the required stiffness, deflection load and flattening. The fittings shall be subject to hydrostatic burst pressure. The pipe and fittings shall be subject to impact resistance test.

Design, Construction and Performance Test of a Window Control System Sense by Rain

ABSTRACT

With the advancement of science and technology people are becoming more dependent on mechanical and electronic devices. These devices are also getting more and more sophisticated. The use of micro-controller and electronics control unit (ECU) can very easily fulfill this requirement. Applications would include robotics controllers, turning machine tools and other precise shaft positioning control environments etc. In the present work an automatically controlled window system using an electronics control unit has been designed and constructed. An electronics control unit has been developed to control the opening and closing of window. A sensor is made to sense the rain and a mechanical control unit using a dc servo motor and rack and pinion gear system is also developed to control the motion of window. Thus by using this, a automatic window control system sensed by rain is constructed.

OPTIMAL DESIGN OF MACHINE ELEMENTS USING A GENETIC ALGORITHM

ABSTRACT

Optimization is a technique through which better results are obtained under certain circumstances. In the present study, four different problems, namely, volume minimization of a closed coil helical spring, weight minimization of a hollow shaft, weight minimization of a belt-pulley drive, and weight minimization of a composite leaf spring have been investigated. Several traditional methods have been used, in the past, to solve such problems. But, the traditional techniques have some drawbacks. For example, there is a chance for the solutions to get trapped into local minimum. Again, the algorithm developed for one type of problem, may not be found suitable to solve another type of problem. Thus, there is steel a need for a versatile algorithm to solve different optimization problems. In this study, a non-traditional optimization technique, namely, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to solve different optimization problems. The above-mentioned problems are solved by the GA and comparable results are obtained.

CONTROL THE EQUIPMENTS OF AN INDUSTRY FROM A REMOTE PLACE

ABSTRACT

Modern world is the world of automation. The industries are introducing more automated devices which are more reliable, more powerful and more innovative than ever. Generally the equipments of an industry are controlled automatically or manually. Now a days the automated control system is used widely and becoming more familiar. In some industries the equipments are controlled by a system connected to a central computer. In this system the equipments of an industry is fully controlled by a computer with a software program. Here the instructional data is transferred between the computer and several relay circuits through wire. The objective of this project is to develop a system that can control industrial equipments from a very distant place by giving input data to the central computer through internet or any IP based network. By developing this type of controlling system, a client can observe and at the same time control the equipments of an industry remotely while he/she is busy with another work or a meeting or in the case of emergency. Also this system might be useful to inaccessible industries where there is very high temperature or high radiation or risk of generating toxic fumes etc.
